Custom Events

Within the Kumquat (v4.1) Release we introduce the concept of “Custom Events” to Selligent Marketing Cloud. This powerful feature enables support for event-triggered journeys, from abandoned carts, customer purchases, voucher redemptions, in-store visits to anniversary triggers, users can now easily define events to trigger activities within a journey.

Custom Events List: Users can now create Custom Events Lists linked to the Audience List. The Custom Events can be populated into the list manually, through tasks, via the API or via an Event Date Component within a Journey.

Custom Events Component: The Custom Events data can be used to automatically trigger a journey when a new record is added to the Custom Events List. This is achieved by adding the new Custom Event journey component to the journey map which triggers the start of the journey when new data is added to the Custom Events List.

Event Data Component: This new component works in much the same way as the Data Component and allows users to select a Custom Event List and add records within a journey.

Custom Events Filtering: Custom Events data can also be used for filtering, for example to ensure that you can either include database contacts that have specific Custom Events data. This is achieved through the Audience Filter and Split components within a journey.

Custom Events Personalization: Custom Events can be used for content personalization as well as be used to split the audience within a journey, to send personalized messaging based on data. When using Custom Events for personalization, the user will be presented with a list of available Custom Events. Please note that message personalization using Custom Events data is only available in Custom Journeys which start with a Custom Events Component.

Messages Leveraging Custom Events: Some interface changes have been made to the creation of Messages to accommodate Custom Events usage. At creation of a new Journey, the properties panel now contains a drop-down field to select if any type of specific data that will be used to personalize the message. This also supports messages across Email, SMS and Mobile Push channels.

Journey Enhancements

Other journey enhancements included within this release include changes around disabling tracking in journeys.

The ability to Disable External Analytics tracking already existed, but now a second method Disable Interaction Tracking has been introduced within this release.

When interaction tracking is de-activated, email clicks, email opens, link and unsubscribe interaction are no longer tracked. This this will clearly have an impact on your journey reporting, segmentation using metrics and Send Time optimization.

When external analytics tracking is disabled, this will impact your external trackers such as Google Analytics. It will also impact your Site Tracker and ShopTracker.

Reporting Enhancements

This release introduces heatmap reporting to Selligent Marketing Cloud users. The heatmap visualization lets marketers see how well different areas, such as content blocks or buttons in the email perform. Clicks and conversion statistics are translated into color codes overlaying the different areas in the email. When several languages are used for the email, the heatmap can be shown for one specific language or for all languages.

A legend is provided to give more clarity on the color codes used and the marketer can toggle this feature on or off when needed.

Heatmaps can be exported in either PNG or PDF format. When exporting the Heatmap in PNG format the following options are presented:

  • Email preview as PNG
  • Heatmap overlay as PNG
  • Click results as PNG which only exports the table

Data Management Enhancements

To further support Custom Events, Tasks now have the ability to trigger an journey powered by a Custom Event upon task completion adding full automation around event-driven marketing strategies.
