Switch Email Service Providers
If you are thinking of switching from your business' current email service provider to a new one, there are a few things you should keep in mind (especially if your business sends frequent marketing emails). Consider these five tips for changing email services to ensure the process is as smooth and painless as possible.
1. Import emails and contacts
If you don't take the time to import your emails and contacts, you're going to lose them all. Typically, email services provide you with a way to import emails and contacts from your old account. Before you switch, make sure you are able to do this!
2. Store historical data
Make sure to determine how far back you want to go to save your reporting data. Six months should be sufficient, but don't just save the percentages in the report; save the actual numbers so you have more room to recalculate rates.
3. Update forms and tracking
If you have any forms on your website that involve your business' email address, you'll need to make sure you change all of them. This can include:
- Sharing functions
- Unsubscribe links
- Sender addresses
- Post-click tracking
If your business frequently uses email marketing tactics (and it should), you'll need to make sure the email links in your templates are updated.
4. Update all linked accounts
All business accounts tied to business email addresses will need to be updated, including your CRM system. Make sure you update your CRM system before you do anything else because the longer you wait the more complicated this move can be.
5. Update your staff
Selligent Marketing Cloud has helped companies of all sizes find marketing success. Whether your business has 10 employees or 10,000, you'll need to update them on all the changes about to take place. Encourage them to save any important emails or chats in case technical difficulties cause data loss during the switch. You should also train your employees on how to use the new system.
