Brussels, 4th of December 2003 - Selligent joins the Board of FEDMA, the Federation of European Direct and Interactive Marketing, as 5th Corporate Member alongside companies such as TimeWarner Europe, Bertelsmann, Reader's Digest and the Royal Mail.
As CRM expert, Selligent will help ensure that CRM specific issues are taken into account in FEDMA's core work, be it on the legal, promotional or educational front.
André Lejeune, CEO Selligent, commented that there are important strategic reasons behind this move: "As a company, we strongly believe that the implication of marketers, and especially of direct marketers and distance selling specialists - working alongside IT specialists and company management- is essential to the ultimate success of any CRM project. Since the surge of investment in CRM started in the mid nineties, direct marketers have represented one of the missing links in the process and as a result, the ROI of many projects for major corporations has been severely compromised and user satisfaction borders on single figures. Direct marketers have both the strategic vision, as well as lengthy experience in managing one-to-one relationships. It is they who actually create and develop the applications that make CRM so worthwhile. Selligent is therefore investing in the DM industry and are committed to partner more closely with direct marketers in developing systems and applications for our customer base."
This coincides with recent clear signals from FEDMA that CRM and on-line communication are amongst its primary concerns. The Federation's lobbying work to ensure that brand marketers, agencies, consumers and other purchasers conserve the necessary "space" in which to operate and communicate in spite of restrictive E.U. legislation on e-mailing is a case in point.
For Ara Cinar, President of FEDMA, CRM is also an important part of the Federations own development strategy: "We are delighted to welcome Selligent onto the FEDMA Board as a Corporate Member and believe that their contribution to the Federation's plans in the CRM segment will be considerable. CRM is expected to "take-off" in a big way in mid-sized European companies in the coming months and as a trade Federation, we are very concerned that these types of companies avoid the mistakes of many of the bigger players in the past through the appropriate information and expertise being made available to them from the start-up of their CRM projects. As part of FEDMA's core work in this area, we're developing a wide agenda of CRM-related initiatives covering public affairs issues, best practices, education, market research and publications to ensure that a solid framework exists for the development of the CRM business of both our direct members and the members of national associations across Europe."
A qualitative and quantitative survey recently carried out by Selligent amongst 2.000 companies in 7 European markets to determine today's perceptions of CRM has in effect found that amongst mid- and smaller-sized companies, CRM is still largely unknown. These companies are therefore looking, above, for CRM solutions and accompaniment, rather than just enabling technology.
Extracts from this research, as well as additional background position papers, are amongst the first benefits FEDMA members will receive thanks to Selligent's membership of the Federation.
